It is well known that Sarah Palin attacked a number of different research studies when she spoke about earmarks, however, one scientist has fired back in a highly readable blog post that explains that fruit fly research has implications for a number of human disorders and diseases, including Autism and Down Syndrome.
I can completely understand why Ms. Palin would be against Down syndrome related research, can't you? I mean clearly God just made your child that way. It had nothing to do with genetics, right?
Personally, I don't think thaat research dollars should be considered funding worth cutting. The sheer amount of hoops you have to go through to get most research grants is phenomenal, and slightly intimidating from the cheap seats where I sit. Of course, you need people at the helm in this country who understand that the answer is not "God said" before you can ever explain that research is not simply an earmark.
Thanks to The Other 95% for pointing me to this blog! They go into several of the other earmarks she feels should be on the chopping block, like overhead projectors for a planetarium dome, but seriously who's counting.
The really scary thing is that the RNC seems totally ready to dump Mcsame off as a loser and put Ms. Palin up on a pedestal. They are calling her the "future of the Republican party". Is anyone scared yet??

"Research is not an earmark." I like that and will use it :-)
Thanks for the link,

I hope she is the "future" of the GOP. Makes it that much easier to beat them than when they get all sneaky moderate on us ;-)
Bjoern: Thank The Other 95%, I liberally borrowed it from them.
Idealist Lefty: I hope you're right. She is one crazy lady.
